Vinnie Jones has enjoyed a successful acting career since hanging up his boots in 1999, but the former Wimbledon and Chelsea midfielder has hinted at a return to football

Hard-hitting former midfielder Vinnie Jones has hinted he could return to football 25 years after retiring as a player.

Jones, a key figure in Wimbledon FC’s Crazy Gang, etched his name into football history when the team triumphed over Liverpool with a 1-0 victory in the 1988 FA Cup final. He transferred to Leeds in 1989, but made a return to Wimbledon in 1992 following stints with Chelsea and Sheffield United.

In 1999, Jones decided to hang up his boots after a season as a player/coach with QPR. He is now renowned for his roles on the silver screen, including his acting debut in Guy Richie’s Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, as well as Snatch and The Gentlemen.

However, it appears the tough guy hasn’t completely ruled out a return to the pitch.

In an interview with The Telegraph, he revealed: “Someone came to me the other day with an interesting idea about football. Not management, but being involved without investing.

“There’s two good ways to lose your money. One is buying into football, and another is buying into football. I’d stay well clear of them. And the third one is farming.”

A comeback to football would add another feather to Jones’s cap, as he balances his TV work with his performances in the West End as gangster Danny Driscoll in the musical version of Only Fools and Horses.

Jones also seems to be relishing his life in West Sussex, describing his move to the countryside as a “360”. He further explained: “We were brought up with fields, streams, fields, forests, that was our interest growing up.

“I’ve come 360 degrees. It’s all we knew until we were about 17-18. Then you realise that beer tastes quite nice, and get into cars, and mates and everything. But the countryside’s in my DNA.”
