Leeds United still in hunt to sign Jonathan Rowe

Leeds United are still in contention to sign Norwich City winger Jonathan Rowe in the summer transfer window. 

The Whites have previously expressed their willingness to sign the 21-year-old attacking midfielder, but they have not made any formal bid yet.

Leeds have held talks with Norwich City and planned to submit a bid in the region of £7 million for the England youth international. However, they learnt that Norwich have set a higher valuation for the winger.

French club Marseille entered the scene and threatened to secure the deal.

According to Mike McGrath of The Telegraph, Marseille made a formal bid on Friday (9 August) evening, which is 72 hours back. The bid was rejected immediately. The Ligue 1 club are considering making another offer.

Rowe is expected to leave Carrow Road in the summer transfer window and was not included in last week’s matchday squad.

The journalist wrote on X: “Jonathan Rowe situation at Norwich City. Bid from Marseille went in Friday evening – not accepted but considering another offer.

“Player not included in squad after discussions with club (did not withdraw himself) at the weekend. Leeds and other clubs are still in contention.”

The Whites must make a formal bid now and present a lucrative offer to sign Rowe.

Leeds have money to spend after selling Crysencio Summerville and Archie Gray, and other players this summer. Surely, they can afford to meet Norwich’s asking price.

After managing a 3-3 draw in the opening game against Portsmouth, the squad clearly needs bolstering. Daniel Farke has quality attacking players at his disposal, but Leeds need to find a replacement for Summerville.

Rowe was involved in 14 Championship goals last term, and he can be a valuable addition to the side. Crystal Palace forward Jesurun Rak-Sakyi is another player they are interested in, but no bids have been placed so far.
