DJ Mensah, the stage name of Michael Mensah Ayenu, a Ghanaian disc jockey, has appealed to his fellow countrymen to encourage and support their own musicians.
While appearing on Joy FM’s X space, which Kwame Dadzie hosts, DJ Mensah made this statement. Along with that, he bemoaned the rate at which Ghanaian songs are being replaced by Nigerian tunes by taxi drivers.
It shouldn’t be the case, he continued, and Ghanaians ought to promote their music like people in other nations do.
If you travel to anywhere especially somewhere like New York, as soon as you sit in the Uber or any of your friends’ cars they are listening to hip hop or R&B depending on the radio station. When you come to Ghana it used to be R&B and hip hop. Now, it’s either Nigerian music or something else. When the foreigners come, they want to hear something from Ghana. They want to hear something different from what they are used to.
DJ Mensah said.
