his illustrious NBA career with the Indiana Pacers because he “didn’t want to be like some other guys, who jump on another team’s bandwagon just to get a ring.” While Miller’s statement seemed profound and candid, his fellow NBA legend Karl Malone wasn’t buying it.
According to “The Mailman,” he shamelessly joined the Los Angeles Lakers at the tail end of his career for a shot at winning an NBA championship. Malone stressed that Miller could’ve done the same if he hadn’t prioritized money over the opportunity to win a title.
“Reggie stayed in Indiana for the money,” Malone told The Los Angeles Times in ’03. “He stayed for the money, I didn’t. So, let him keep talking. I did hear, ‘I’m just glad to end my career where I started.’ Reggie, just say you stayed for the money.”
